OUGD403 Module self evaluation

Overall, I found this module challenging but exciting. Things that I thought went well about this brief were when we were allowed to experiment with the different elements of design, for example during brief 5. I liked the way we were limited and restricted to the use of image, image and type and just type, also having to choose only three colours to work with.
I have learnt alot about the anatomy of type, and all the different elements within typography, which has enabled me to develop my skills. I have been able to put these skills into practice during brief 1, 2 and 3, as they are all typography based briefs.
Within brief 3, I enjoyed manipulating an existing typeface to communicate the characteristics of my partner, I could experiment playing round with removing and adding serifs to different typefaces to create subtle yet clear manipulations.
The illustrator brief I found very challenging, as I have never used illustrator prior to this brief  however I am pleased with the overall finished product. The digital print resource was also a good way of producing the final resolved typeface.
I enjoyed the research side to the message and delivery brief, as I was able to go off into a tangent and make my initial story more interesting, and relate to a younger target audience.

I am pleased with my overall responses to each brief as I feel like I have learned new skills when developing each brief.

OUGD403 Typeface brief

This shows the final outcome, I think that the manipulations work well for the whole alphabet overall, however i would say the letterform 'Z' was the least successful. I noticed that throughout the process of manipulating a typeface certain errors will occur with certain letterforms, but work for the majority. If i was to take this brief further, I would create these letter forms on illustrator instead of hand rendering them so that they would have a cleaner finish. The digital print resource would be a great way of producing this typeface.

Inspiration

The person that inspires me the most is my godfather, Brian. He had been a very close friend to the family for years, and he was thought of very highly. My godfather played the role of another grandad to me and my younger brother, he was the most gentle and loving man. He is my inspiration as I have always looked up to him from a very young age. My godfather always encouraged me during my school days and was always supportive regardless of the outcome. These specific attributes are why I look up to him the most, he was a very special part of my life, and my families life. I admire my godfather because he was one of a kind, and he was always around to cheer me up whenever it was needed. Brian had very unique qualities, and he was a very popular man to both his friends, and his family, and nobody could ever fault him. I have always been passionate about art and design, and I could share this with my godfather. I give him credit for helping me, he was very supportive and loved sitting with me while I showed him my newest drawings that I had done in school. The quality time I used to spend with him is so precious to me, and I am so lucky to have had such a special relationship with the most kind, caring and amazing family member. He inspires me on a day to day basis to do my best in whatever I am doing, and to try and achieve the highest of my abilities. I am privileged to have known such a wonderful gentleman.
